For Paul and Margot Williamson, supporting the community was always a shared priority. While Margot has since passed away, the values they held together — generosity, compassion, and a deep commitment to children and families — continue through the Williamson family’s ongoing support of Kids Can Fly.
Paul and Margot spent most of their lives in Brantford, where they were involved in dozens of community initiatives and charitable causes. Their connection to Kids Can Fly began in its earliest days, when Paul was working as a foundation manager with a local organization.
“I helped provide seed funding to Kids Can Fly when it was just getting started,” Paul explained. “In that role, I saw many worthwhile projects, but those that supported children and families always stood out.”
As the Williamsons grew their own business, they were able to give back directly to causes close to their hearts. Even after Paul stepped away from foundation management, Kids Can Fly — and Storybook Breakfast in particular — remained an important part of their philanthropic journey.
“I’ve actually attended Storybook Breakfast once,” Paul shared. “I liked it, and that was good enough for me.”
That first experience led to more than 15 consecutive years of sponsorship from Paul and Margot. This year’s Storybook Breakfast sponsorship is being made by Paul in honour of the many years he and Margot supported the event together, and the impact they believed it could have for local children.
Paul continues to encourage others in the community to support Kids Can Fly.
“Each year, I sponsor so that I can also encourage friends in the giving sector to step forward,” he said. “It’s much easier to ask when you’re willing to lead by example.”
This year, Storybook Breakfast aims to raise $30,000 in support of Kids Can Fly’s programs for children and families. Thanks to the continued generosity of supporters like Paul — and the lasting legacy shared by the Williamson family — that goal is well within reach.
