This past year brought a lot of changes to our current programs, and we were both challenged and excited to switch our in person programs to virtual, as well as create new and exciting ways to support families and stay connected!
Now that the warmer weather has finally arrived, we will once again be making a few small changes.
Please email jflinders@me.com or info@kidscanfly.ca with any questions to these changes.
Thank you to everyone who has participated and supported these changes. We will continue as always to help, support and connect moms and families!

Kids Can Fly recognizes the importance of family and community support of all new parents.
Because of social distancing, new parents of infants are circumstantially feeling very isolated right now.
We would like to harness our past best practices and allow the Parachute Program to create a sister program specifically designed to support and meet the needs of brand new parents during these times.
So we created HUGS4NEWMOMS!
This program will address weekly topics that new parents are concerned about and will be delivered to the group through a Zoom virtual format
Topics will include how to develop supports during social distancing, lactation and feeding your baby, self-care for mom, sleep (for both of you), how to deal with anxiety and many more
We will have expert guests such as public health nurses to answer your questions and hope to help everyone feel less alone
The group will begin meeting on Monday April 13 at 10:00 am and will take place each Monday until further notice
To join, please contact Jane Flinders at jflinders@me.com or 519-755-9482. You can also contact us through our Kids Can Fly website or facebook page to obtain the Zoom login information
On Wednesday April 3, we welcomed Heather Young from Good Night Sleep Site in Waterloo to our Parachute program to discuss sleep strategies with the moms.
There was a great discussion afterwards, and a lot of moms who attended went home with some really great information about how to encourage a better sleep routine at home for their little ones.
Here is a sample of some strategies they received:
Create your baby’s sleep Sanctuary
Make naps a priority during daytime
Introduce a calming bedtime routine
Choose a sleep method for your family
If you would like to contact Heather, you can reach her at: heather@goodnitesleepsite.com
If you would like to know more information about our Parachute program please contact Sharon at info@kidscanfly.ca
Last week we celebrated our volunteers for our Parachute program. The Parachute program is for moms with babies under 12 months. It is meant to act as a support for the challenges that new moms are facing parenting an infant. A light lunch is provided weekly and transportation is available if needed.
Our volunteers come every week and help facilitate the program and cuddle the babies. The volunteers are a huge part of this program and we wanted to show them how much we appreciate them!
The lunch was held at Serenity Country Candles, and they surprised us by providing the lunch free of cost and giving each of our volunteers a beautiful candle to take home as a thank you for the work that Kids Can Fly and our volunteers do!
It was a wonderful afternoon!
