After more than 20 years of dedication, Jane Flinders, “Miss Jane”, has officially retired from her role at Kids Can Fly. While she continues to share her gifts and passion for early childhood education in new ways, we are honoured to celebrate the profound impact she has made here with us.
Jane has been at the heart of so many of our programs — guiding families from pregnancy through the toddler years, always reminding us that the first five years of a child’s life are the most important. As a Registered Early Childhood Educator, she has supported parents through programs such as Parachute Program, Mothers in Mind, Pat-a-Cake, Launch Pad, and Prenatal classes.
Her ability to connect with families through open and honest conversation has left a lasting mark. Jane helped mothers build support networks, normalize the struggles of parenting, and find encouragement in our community. We see her legacy today in the many families who stay connected to Kids Can Fly, who return as volunteers, staff members, and board members, all carrying forward the sense of belonging Jane helped to create.
And of course, we can’t talk about Jane without celebrating her love of music. Music has always been her superpower. With a song and a smile, she brought joy, comfort, and connection to children and parents alike. Those moments of shared music are woven into the memories of countless families.
“The greatest joy of my career with Kids Can Fly has been walking alongside families — listening, singing, and reminding parents that they are not alone. Every song, every circle, every honest conversation has been a chance to build connection and hope. That’s what I’ll always carry with me.” — Miss Jane
Miss Jane’s chapter with Kids Can Fly may be complete, but her influence will continue to ripple through our community for years to come. She has shaped not only programs, but people — parents who gained confidence, children who found joy in learning, and colleagues who were inspired by her dedication.
Thank you, Miss Jane, for your wisdom, kindness, music, and unwavering belief in families. You will always be part of the Kids Can Fly family.
