Donn traveled to Pigeon Forge, TN in August 2015 to attend a Dolly Parton benefit concert for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. (Donn Zver, Jeanne Smitiuch, Dolly Parton, Keith Smitiuch and Sharon Brooks)
Donn Zver has the biggest heart especially when it comes to helping to provide books to children through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Donn is not only a world-renowned pottery and owner of Cafe Troy, he is a philanthropist and supports many causes in the community. Donn donated $1000.00 to Kids Can Fly for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. He continues to seek support for the program to help i grow throughout Ontario.
Families rave about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and say that their children have a greater interest in books and reading. The program is based on the facts that
- Parent’s are a child’s first and most influential teacher.
- 90% of a child’s critical brain development happens before age 5 and the early experiences will shape their brain.
- Reading is one of the best ways to increase language and literacy skills and improves parent attachment.
- Children who begin school behind their peers in literacy, generally stay behind throughout their school years.
It is a simple program, give the gift of a book to child, once a month until they turn five. The children love getting a book in the mail and like one father said, “it is like Christmas once a month”. Everyone in the family joins in the excitement, another mother told us that her older children are delighted when the books come and can’t wait to read it to their younger sibling.
If you would like to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, you can donate through Canada Helps and receive a 2015 tax receipt before December 31, 2015.
We thank you and the children who will be more ready to begin school thank you too!
