Why is Yoga good for me?

Yoga can help to lower stress and improves your mood, boosts confidence, lowers risk of injury,  helps you lose weight, increases flexibility, improves muscle tone and strength, benefits breathing, lowers blood pressure and improves your  posture.

Why children/family yoga?

Yoga helps connect our minds with our bodies and our environment to ourselves. This is beneficial at any age. In this incredibly fast-paced world our children can often become saturated with information and stimulus.. It helps to deepen concentration, coordination and focus. It can increase inner awareness, self-discipline, cooperation and positive social behaviours. Studies have shown that yoga reduces stress even for our little ones. Yoga increases our children’s body awareness, self esteem, confidence, strength and flexibility. Yoga for children is very different than for adults. Children learn traditional poses in fun and creative ways incorporating music, storytelling and literature.  Children model their parent’s behaviours and choosing to prioritize healthy choices in our families lives is a win win for everyone.

Where does the money raised in this Yogathon go to?

The funds raised from the Yogathon will be used directly to the early literacy program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, for the costs of books and postage to send a child a book every month until they turn five.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library; spearheaded by country music icon Dolly Parton; mails a quality, age appropriate book monthly to registered children from birth until age 5. Research indicates this helps children be better prepared when they start formal school. It also encourages the parent/child bond by spending time together.
