On Saturday, February 7, the 19th Annual Storybook Breakfast at the Marriott TownePlace Suites in Brantford brought stories to life — and created real impact for families in our community.
This beloved Kids Can Fly event was made possible by over 100 dedicated volunteers who gave their time, creativity, and energy to create a truly magical experience. Across two seatings, approximately 500 guests were welcomed, filling the room with laughter, excitement, and wide-eyed wonder.
Children met their favourite characters face-to-face, from playful Minions and the unforgettable Queen of Hearts to Disney Princesses and Superheroes. Volunteers brought these characters to life, offering autographs and creating moments of connection and joy that children and parents will remember long after the event has ended.
Families leaned into the fun — many arriving in costume — and every child could have a photo with a character, beautifully captured by Edge Imaging. Guests also received a goodie bag containing a book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Brantford-Brant, along with colouring sheets and special surprises generously provided by sponsors.
“This is a great opportunity for kids to meet different characters and learn about books,” said Janet Berger, who has brought her family to three Storybook Breakfasts. “I love how much fun my kids have!”
“I like walking around and playing all of the games,” added Janet’s daughter Lily, who attended dressed as Elsa.
Storybook Breakfast features a number of “Imagination Stations” with storybook-themed games, crafts, and toys for guests to explore.
While the morning was full of magic, its purpose runs much deeper.
Thanks to the incredible support of sponsors and community donors, the 19th Annual Storybook Breakfast — presented by Paul Williamson and the James F. Boughner Foundation — raised over $33,000 for Kids Can Fly, the highest amount raised in the event’s history.
These funds directly support Kids Can Fly programs that help families navigate the early years with confidence and connection. From early literacy initiatives through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to parent support through the Parachute Program and family programming through Launch Pad, this event helps ensure caregivers have the tools and resources they need to support their children’s growth.
The Storybook Breakfast also highlights the critical importance of early literacy.
Positive early experiences with books and storytelling help build language skills, strengthen family bonds, and lay the foundation for lifelong learning. By surrounding children with stories, characters, and shared reading experiences, Kids Can Fly reinforces that literacy begins early — and that it truly matters.
Kids Can Fly’s Storybook Breakfast is more than a celebration. It is a meaningful investment in families, in learning, and in the well-being of children across our community.
Because of the generosity of everyone involved — volunteers, sponsors, donors, and families — the impact of this event will be felt far beyond one special morning.
