Leisa Way of Leisa Way Productions presented Kids Can Fly with a donation of $1200 for our Imagination Library in December!
This donation will help children enrolled in the program by sending one free book to their home each month until they’re 5 years old. The Imagination Library was founded by country singer, Dolly Parton. Leisa is a tribute artist and performs as “Dolly” in many shows throughout the year. Leisa says “Our concert is a very loving musical tribute to Dolly, and it is a tribute not only to her music, but to the amazing person she is. The Imagination Library is such a beautiful extension of her great generosity. Reading is a passion of mine — I was a bookworm as a child who got laughed at in school many times, as I’d be so engrossed in my reading that when the class moved on, I never noticed – and the teacher and students would be staring at me, until I got that funny feeling of ‘being stared at’. When I finally looked up — of course they would all burst into laughter. I was a shy student, so books became good friends — then as an adult, it is fitting that I became a singer who loses herself in the story of the song. Words are so important – they can lift us up, inspire us, teach us, hurt us, heal us….. and every child should be given the gift of reading. I am so happy that because of Dolly and our concerts I can give this small donation to help a few more children in Ontario learn to love reading. ”
Leisa will present Rhinestone Cowgirl: A Tribute to Dolly Parton at the Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover, Ontario from May 22nd to June 16th, 2012 (4 week run of 6 concerts per week) www.lighthousetheatre.com
