The Grand Ballroom at the Best Western was packed on November 8 for the 10th Anniversary of the Kids Can Fly Early Childhood Educator Banquet. The Pink and Black theme was everywhere from decor, to outfits to a cotton candy martini created by the hotel for this occasion.  Louise Swartz (photo with Sharon Brooks ED of Kids Can Fly) won the Children’s Champion Award sponsored by the Y Child Care. Other winners were Karen MacDonald – Every Kid Counts Award; sponsored by Lansdowne Children’ Centre;  Sara Darling – Love of Reading Award sponsored by the Dey Family, Maureen Nicol- McGraw, the Student Rising Star Award sponsored by the OEYC-Brant; Dawn Waddington – Mohawk College Alumni Award and Doreen Decker the Life Long Learning Award, both sponsored by Mohawk College.  Eight people were honoured with their 20 Years of Service Pin and 4 with 30 Years of Service Pins.  Patti Brooks-Barber of the Mississauga’s of the New Credit received special recognition for recently receiving the Prime Ministers Award in Excellence for ECE.  Sponsors for the event were City Grants, Mohawk College. GEDSB, BHNCDSB, Best Start, Onondaga Masons,  and Kids Can Fly.  The Early Childhood Educator Event brings together local early learning professionals to celebrate their profession and honour excellence.
