Kids Can Fly Brantford

Kids Can Fly promotes early childhood development in Brantford/Brant

Storybook Breakfast 2023 was a grand success! We are so thankful to have welcomed close to 500 guests through the doors of the Hellenic Community Centre to enjoy a fantastic breakfast and interactions with close to 50 different storybook characters.

We are happy to report that we also raised $31,600 for Kids Can Fly through event sponsorships! This money goes right back into our operations and helps us to run our many high-impact programs including: the Launchpad, Parachute Program, Prenatal classes, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the annual ECE Awards Celebration, Roots of Empathy, and more

This event is so unique because it is just as much a fundraiser as it is a community impact event. Based on the rave reviews we received in our feedback survey and the smiling faces of so many children and their parents, we know it did what we hoped it would.

This year’s theme was “Imagination,” and we had a variety of “Imagination Stations” throughout the banquet hall, showing off different classic story themes. Characters from those stories stayed nearby, and it was a fantastic opportunity for guests to get autographs from their favourite characters, and countless photos were taken with the beautiful back drops.

Our Glass Slipper sponsors, Margot & Paul Williamson and the James F. Boughner Foundation, are a critical part of making this event happen, but we are also thankful to the rest of our sponsors:

Adkins Financial Services
Terrace Hill Medical Centre
Findlay Personal Injury Lawyers

 Sylvan Learning Brantford

Recyclable Materials Marketing

City of Brantford Office of the Mayor: Mayor Kevin Davis
Lynden Hills Dentistry
Campbell and Company Real Estate

 Dairee Delite
Smitiuch Personal Injury Law

In addition to all of these higher level sponsorships, we had a whopping NINETEEN Beanstalk ($250) sponsors: Stepright Capital Planning, Minotaur Stormwater Services, Scott & Aline Foster, Coldwell Realty – Sarah Tolhurst, Millards Chartered Professional Accountants, Wee Watch Licensed Home Childcare Brantford-Brant, Altitude Coffee Roasters, ARK Electrical, Ayr Farmers Mutual, Meridian Credit Union, Lance Calbeck Royal LePage, Montessori Children’s Academy, Mattina Austin Hunter, CMB Erectors Inc., County of Brant Public Library, Paul & Margot Kneale, Inspired Mortgage, Grand Erie Elementary Teachers Federation – Social Justice Committee, and the Brantford Police Association.

We also had some amazing in-kind donations from Longo’s Ancaster, Leigh Dubay Graphic Design, the Brantford Expositor, Spence Print Solutions, Digital Duck Inc., Hellenic Community Centre, R & J Theatrics, Triple Arts Academy, and Edge Imaging.

Events like these take many people working together. We had nearly 100 volunteers helping, doing everything from being part of the planning committee to dressing up as characters or serving food! Thank you so much to our wonderful volunteers. We appreciate you all very much!

This was the 16th year of this event. Each year, the event brings in new young children who are just so open to the wonder of an opportunity like this. We got to hear the excited yells and cheers as children met characters they never expected to meet in real life.

Everywhere we looked, we could see smiling faces, discussing the unique centrepieces at each table (each table had its own storybook theme), pointing at the various characters they still wanted to meet, chatting with characters as they signed the children’s autograph books, and munching on the delicious food prepared by Marschal Giles Catering and Buffet services.

It was a truly fabulous day. It was our first time running this event at the Hellenic Community Centre, but despite it being a tad smaller than our previous venue, it was just wonderful to be back in person after two years of the “Picnic” version of Storybook Breakfast due to the pandemic.

A wonderful time was had by all.
