ECE Awards Banquet 2019

Early Learning professionals gathered at the Best Western on November 6, 2019 to celebrate the amazing work they do for children and families in our community.  This was the 17th Awards Banquet hosted by Kids Can Fly and a sold out crowd enjoyed an 80’s Theme.        The Donn Zver Love of Literacy Award was given for the first time to Mieke Schroeder for a life time of supporting reading for young children and highlighting her efforts with Strong Start.  Kids Can Fly created this new award to honour the amazing contributions Donn has provided to one of our largest programs, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  Donn was the keynote speaker and he shared his story of growing up in a family where English was the second language which proved challenging when learning to read.     In total 10 Sponsored Awards were presented along with pins for years of service.  Dozens of Door Prizes including a voucher for VIA RAIL were given out to wrap up a memorable evening.

Celebrating real life Super Heroes

Last night we celebrated the 16th year of the ECE Awards Banquet.  The theme this year was Super Heroes, and we took the time to celebrate the real life Super Heroes who work with the young children in our community every day.

The ECE Committee did a fabulous job decorating for the event and making the space at the Best Western as festive as it could be!

We were thrilled to see so many guests get into the spirit and dress up and embrace the theme!

Awards were given to recognize exemplary work in the field of ECE and for years of service

A very special award this year was new, and was donated by the family of Nancy Corke, who was a dear friend of Kids Can Fly.  Nancy enjoyed a career nurturing young children and was extremely passionate about sharing the joys of nature with them. The Joy of Nature award was been created to honour her memory and to encourage us to follow her example.  Congratulations to Montessori Children’s Academy for being the recipients.

Our night was completed with a fabulous guest speaker and amazing door prizes.  Thank you to Shaelyn Osborn from Whole Body Health for speaking to us on living your passions and following your dreams and thank you to all of the generous sponsors and community businesses who donated prizes!

What a wonderful night celebrating the ECE community!  See you next year!
