Donn Zver is well known to be a champion of literacy and a huge supporter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
He has given his time, energy, generosity and passion to raising money so we can get books into the homes of children….and his birthday was no exception!
Donn held an online birthday fundraiser for his birthday last week and raised over an incredible $1500!! This will pay for books for over 30 children in our community!
Thank you Donn for always thinking of others and for your never ending support of Kids Can Fly and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!

The 2019 Royal Tea was held this past Sunday on July 7th at Donn Zver Pottery and Cafe Troy.
It was another very successful fundraiser for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, raising just over $10,000!
The weather was perfect and everyone who attended really got into the spirit!
Some were pretty creative, and even Dolly dressed for the occasion….
The queen made another appearance this year and brought greetings and handed out the prizes for the fascinator contest
The food made by the staff at Cafe Troy and the service they provided was once again amazing
Thank you to all of the many sponsors who helped to make the silent auction and raffles so popular among guests and so successful!

On Sunday July 8, a Royal Tea fundraiser was held at Cafe Troy. All proceeds raised went directly to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Brantford/Brant County, which provides free books every month to children who are enrolled in the community.
We are THRILLED to announce that through the efforts of Donn Zver and many, many others, we raised $10,000!
It was a beautiful event and every detail attended to. There was sandwiches and sweets, tea and champagne. Memorabilia from the Royal Family decorated the inside of the cafe, including a chair from the Queen’s Coronation.
The guests gathered in the garden and awaited the arrival of ‘The Queen’ and her dog. The crowd rose to ‘God Save the Queen’ and the Queen, Donn Zver and staff from Kids Can Fly gave some speeches. The queen was then available to wander through the gardens and greet her loyal fans, while a piper played background music.
The guests who attended the tea really got in the spirit with the hat/fascinator contest and it was a tough decision, but the Queen selected 3 top winners from the group.
The Silent Auction was a huge success and raised quite a bit of the money at the event. Thank you to all of the donors who gave items for the prizes including: Donn Zver, Dairee Delite, The Dollywood Foundation, Brantford Symphony, Jen Parker (poppy and peonies), Brantford Twin Valley Zoo, The Golden Teapot, The Spotted Owl, Antler Garden Centre, Maria Modopoulos, Kuriyama, Wylde Rose, Dr. Willem Bouma, Hamilton Tiger Cats, Sweet Bakery Ingenia Polymers and Sam’s Place Farm Market.
A special thank you to Findlay Personal Injury Lawyers for the donation of an iPad, which raised over $1000 and to Osborne Avenue Photography for the donations to the silent auction, but also for taking such beautiful pictures of the day.
During the months leading up to this event and the day of, a number volunteers, board and committee members and the staff at Cafe Troy worked hard to make this event as fantastic as it was….thank you for all of your efforts.
This event would not have been possible without the vision, enthusiasm and dedication of Donn Zver. Thank you for your continued support of Kids Can Fly and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!

The Donn Zver Love of Literacy Award was given for the first time to Mieke Schroeder for a life time of supporting reading for young children and highlighting her efforts with Strong Start. Kids Can Fly created this new award to honour the amazing contributions Donn has provided to one of our largest programs, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Donn was the keynote speaker and he shared his story of growing up in a family where English was the second language which proved challenging when learning to read.
In total 10 Sponsored Awards were presented along with pins for years of service. Dozens of Door Prizes including a voucher for VIA RAIL were given out to wrap up a memorable evening.
