A ‘peachy’ event in Troy!

Local resident and Food Network’s Junior Chef Showdown Champion Audrey MacKinnon agreed to give back to her community as a celebrity chef help raise money for Kids Can Fly.  We are thrilled to report that this event raised around $3500 for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!  This is a  program which mails a free book every month from birth to 5 for children living in Brantford and Brant County.

The dinner was held in the outdoors at Cafe Troy and sold out in record time!  Tables were spread out around the beautiful gardens and live music was played to create a beautiful experience for all who attended.

Audrey worked with Chef Carlos to create a peach themed meal which was inspired from a meal she made on the Food Network.

Once she was done preparing most of the meals, Audrey took a break to speak to the guests and went to each table to meet everyone and give a few autographs.

Audrey’s very proud family came out to support Kids Can Fly as well!

Some of the funds raised came from a silent auction.  Most of the items were generously donated by board members, community members and Donn Zver.  Volunteers ensured social distancing and placed bids for people to allow for a touchless, safe experience.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event and a special thanks to Donn Zver and the staff at Cafe Troy as well as Audrey and her family for making this event possible!

Royal Tea raises $10,000 for Imagination Library!

On Sunday July 8, a Royal Tea fundraiser was held at Cafe Troy.  All proceeds raised went directly to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Brantford/Brant County, which provides free books every month to children who are enrolled in the community.

We are THRILLED to announce that through the efforts of Donn Zver and many, many others, we raised $10,000!

It was a beautiful event and every detail attended to.  There was sandwiches and sweets, tea and champagne.  Memorabilia from the Royal Family decorated the inside of the cafe, including a chair from the Queen’s Coronation.

The guests gathered in the garden and awaited the arrival of ‘The Queen’ and her dog.  The crowd rose to ‘God Save the Queen’ and the Queen, Donn Zver and staff from Kids Can Fly gave some speeches.  The queen was then available to wander through the gardens and greet her loyal fans, while a piper played background music.

The guests who attended the tea really got in the spirit with the hat/fascinator contest and it was a tough decision, but the Queen selected 3 top winners from the group.

The Silent Auction was a huge success and raised quite a bit of the money at the event.  Thank you to all of the donors who gave items for the prizes including: Donn Zver, Dairee Delite, The Dollywood Foundation, Brantford Symphony, Jen Parker (poppy and peonies), Brantford Twin Valley Zoo, The Golden Teapot, The Spotted Owl, Antler Garden Centre, Maria Modopoulos, Kuriyama, Wylde Rose, Dr. Willem Bouma, Hamilton Tiger Cats, Sweet Bakery Ingenia Polymers and Sam’s Place Farm Market.

A special thank you to Findlay Personal Injury Lawyers for the donation of an iPad, which raised over $1000 and to Osborne Avenue Photography for the donations to the silent auction, but also for taking such beautiful pictures of the day.

During the months leading up to this event and the day of, a number volunteers, board and committee members and the staff at Cafe Troy worked hard to make this event as fantastic as it was….thank you for all of your efforts.

This event would not have been possible without the vision, enthusiasm and dedication of Donn Zver.  Thank you for your continued support of Kids Can Fly and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!
