In the early days of motherhood, it’s easy to feel like you’re floating somewhere between joy, exhaustion, and the constant question, “Am I doing this right?” Those first months can feel incredibly isolating, and connection often becomes the thing that helps you stay grounded. That’s exactly what the Parachute Program by Kids Can Fly is all about.
“As a new mom, there were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed,” says Melissa La-Salle, who attended Parachute Program with each of her three children. “Then I found the Parachute Program, and everything shifted.”
At Parachute Program, conversations unfold naturally. Some days it’s sleep (or the lack of it). Other days it’s feeding, emotions, or simply the reality of navigating this brand-new chapter.
“I’m grateful for every moment of comfort and community I found at the Parachute Program,” says Melissa. “It helped me steady myself when everything felt new and uncertain and reminded me that asking for support is a strength.”
The group is led by Debbie Censner, an R.E.C.E., who reminds moms that there’s no perfect way to parent — just learning and growing together.
Meanwhile, trained volunteer Baby Cuddlers offer gentle support behind the scenes. They hold, rock, and soothe babies so moms can take a few minutes to participate in discussions, or simply rest their shoulders for a moment. It’s amazing how meaningful those small breaks can be.
Returning moms also play a big role. They come back with their new babies — and with the kind of perspective that only time can give. They reassure newer moms that the hard days do ease up and that the beautiful moments only grow from here. Their presence is a quiet reminder that none of us are meant to do motherhood alone.
And week after week, something special builds as friendships form. There’s laughter, connection, and relief in knowing you’re surrounded by people who truly understand.
