The Kids Can Fly Parachute Program is specifically designed to assist new mothers during the demanding first year of parenthood.

“For some moms, this is the first time they have been confident enough to leave their baby,” says Jane Flinders, Parachute Program Facilitator. “Our Parachute Program provides a supportive environment where mothers can chat with other moms about anything and everything.”

Moms and babies arrive each week at the Parachute Program, some coming early, some come with a sleeping baby in their arms. Each class begins with songs and lap games with Jane, after which the volunteer Baby Cuddler volunteers arrive to cuddle and play with the babies while the moms go into the next room for a cup of tea and a mom-to-mom discussion.

The Kids Can Fly Parachute Program provides a unique opportunity for moms to leave their babies with a Baby Cuddler volunteer while taking time for their wellness.

“Our baby cuddler volunteers try to make vulnerable moms feel safe by having an hour to themselves with other adults,” adds Jane. “Our program offers this unique service, which is why the same moms come consistently each week until their baby turns one year old.”

Moms with babies up to 12 months old are invited to join this group on Mondays from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Margot’s Place in Brantford and Fridays from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at St. George Public Library. Please note that our Parachute Program is closed on all public holidays, and the St. George location is closed during the summer months but will resume in the fall.
