Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of her family, at the Brantford General Hospital, on March 5, 2020. Karen Mitchell was 57 years of age. Karen experienced a brain aneurysm on Wednesday March 4, 2020. Predeceased by her parents Alice and Gordon Mitchell. Beloved mother of Kate Dunn (Mitch McInnes) and Emily Dunn. Forever remembered sister of Cathy Cox (Bill), Jim Mitchell (Maux), Rick Mitchell (Conttia), Mary Tartaglia (Mauro), Ruth MacPherson (Jack), Jane Mitchell (Joe), John Mitchell (Barb) and Nancy Eisenhauer (Tom). Karen will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews and a large social circle of many dear friends. Karen was chosen by her fur baby Franklin to be his favourite human.

Karen was a well-respected teacher for over 35 years with the Catholic School Boards in both North Bay and Brant County. She retired 8 months ago; her final post was Principal with Sacred Heart School in Paris. She was a passionate educator and author whose love for life-long learning inspired many generations of students. Her daughters were the epicentre of her world. She loved sharing as many life experiences as she could pack into a day with her family and friends. Her passions included the Toronto Raptors, cooking, reading and the outdoors. She never saw a dog she didn’t love. Her loss is devastating and she will be missed forever and never forgotten.

Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Joseph Okoko, assisted by Father Michael Bennett, on Wednesday March 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 17 Washington Street, Paris. In accordance with Karen’s wishes, cremation will follow the Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers and in Karen’s memory donations to the Stedman Community Hospice (https://www.sjlc.ca/stedman-community-hospice-1) or the Kids Can Fly Charity https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/t/44108 would be appreciated by the family.
